Victorian Bathroom Restoration

Victorian Bathroom Fitters based in Edinburgh

In the middle of the 19th Century, there were more than 850 sandstone quarries across the UK producing an almost endless amount of building stonework that could be used for the great expansion and growth of Britain during the Victorian era.

And in each of these homes were features and fittings that followed the design trends of the exterior architecture resulting in what we now refer to as Victorian style bathrooms. So many of these period homes still have their original bathroom fittings including ceramic bathtubs, taps, sinks and even toilets.  Yet while these fixtures and fittings were built to last, time and wear & tear can result in the deterioration of these beautiful rooms, resulting in them becoming a shadow of their former selves.

Ceramic baths enamel can become damaged, original taps can loose their shine, their caps and begin to fail.  Original mosaic tiled flooring can become cracked and even replaced by a previous owner, replaced with linoleum.  All of these issues can be repaired, restored or replicated.

At Edward & Greaves, quality and attention to detailing is of paramount importance to us and we pride ourselves in the restoration work we can provide for original Victorian Bathrooms. Fixtures and fittings can be repaired, restored and replaced.  Bathtubs can be repaired and even the tiled floor of your bathroom can be restored.

We ask the client to send us photos of the bathroom space they are looking to have tiled and what potential designs they are looking to have installed. We then arrange a time and date for a site visit, take detailed measurements of the space so we can create a digital diagram to start the design process.

We have a firm belief in combining traditional and contemporary tiling methods is the best way to achieve the highest standards of aesthetics in our work and deliver the highest quality work for our customers. Our tilers are fully qualified to British Industry Standards (City & Guilds) as well as members of the Tile Association and The Tiles & Architectural Ceramics Society.
